Viking Professional 7 Black Friday I have had my Viking 7 qt. mixer for two years now. After doing a lot of research and considering Viking’s reputation for its products, I decided on the 5 qt, only they were sold out, so I went with the 7 qt. I am glad I did. I make 2-3 loaves of fresh ground wheat (6-8 cups depending on the recipe) bread simultaneously at least once per week, often two to three times, depending on the meal and if we are having company. I have tried bread machines and other mixers that die after a short time of making 1 loaf of store bought flour at a time. There is no need to hand knead the dough ever. I have made double batches of bagels with ease. As well, I have made cookies, crackers, brownies, cream puff pastries and whip cream, from single batches to quadruple batches. There is a complaint that the mixer doesn’t get the ingredients in the bottom or won’t mix small amounts…that’s true if you don’t adjust the head depth. A small nut adjustment with a small wrench (which I believe was included) takes care of that. The head cannot be lifted up under the cabinet, but when I think about other people’s mixers, neither can theirs. But it does sit beautifully on my counters and is a great conversation piece. It has even served as a inspiration for some of my friends to begin baking and even making their own bread. However, i would say the money we have saved on bread alone has more than made up for the price, not to mention the time savings and reliability. This is one I hope to pass on to my grandchildren…my children will have to get their own, because I plan on using this for the rest of my existence.
